At the Soto Zen temple, Shoshuji Temple, you will receive a sermon from the head priest and experience matcha tea. In 1554 (Tenbun 23), the founding of Shoshuji Temple was undertaken by the fourth abbot, Tengen Shunkyo, who dreamed of practicing the eightfold path of life of Buddhism. He enshrined Emperor Ojin, grandson of Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, in Tamidada, Sunari Village, and founded the temple along with Hachiman Shrine. In 1584 (Tensho 12), the temple was burned down during Oda Nobunaga’s attack on Kanie Castle. In 1863 (Bunkyu 3), the great abbot Doan Daishu returned to Tamidada, the original site, and rebuilt the temple buildings.
